6 Things to Do to Reduce Migraines

Real causes of migraine are not known yet, despite the fact research have been conducted in this field. This is why there is no medical treatment for migraines. Still, there are a number of things we can do to make migraine pain less severe and less frequent.

- Relax: stress is a powerful enemy of the body: the heart beats more often, air is not properly circulating, and cells are not getting enough oxygen. This is why stress decreases the power of body to fight against sickness. If we learn to relax, we give our body more power to fight. You may try Yoga to learn how to deeply relax your body.

- Allow the body to relax and re-energize itself by taking enough sleep. You must sleep at least 7-8 hours from 24. Going to bed at the same hour every day is beneficial for the body.

- Do some exercise every day. Taking 30 minutes daily for a walk in the park can do miracles to your health.

- Breathe fresh air. Almost all the diseases (cancer, infections and others) that affect us need low quality or lack of oxygen to develop. Taking fresh oxygen into your body will keep away many diseases away. Migraine is one of these.

- Take care of what you eat. “You are what you eat”, they say. And they are right. Eat fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables provide vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and fibers the body needs to be healthy. The beneficial role of fibers and antioxidants in the fight against cancer and other diseases is well-known. Also try not to eat red meat. White meat is very good as well: fish, chicken, turkey. Fish contains Omega 3 fatty acid, also known as “the elixir of happiness”, “the elixir of eternal youth” and so.

- Water is vital for human body. Drinking good, clean water will provide the cells more oxygen and will help the body eliminate toxins and keep it in a good shape. It is said we must drink about 2 liters of water daily. Many common illnesses are not real, they are only signs the body desperately needs water. Do you drink many soda pops daily? Replace it with many glasses of clean water and you will feel better in only 2-3 days.

Are these things hard to put into practice? No, they are not. They are simple things, but if you take care of these, you will experience a better shape for your body and a better shape for your mind. Are you not convinced? Try these for only a month, and I guarantee you an improvement in your life.

Is It Really Migraine?

Tension headaches are headaches caused in people due to tension in mind. Most people describe it as a constant achy feeling on either side of head. Some people also feel tightness in their head and neck muscles. It often starts in middle of day and begins gradually and slowly. Some people also call it as stress headaches. It may be severe or mild, but when it is severe it sometimes may be more painful and dangerous and do more harm than migraine headaches.

How to diagnose tension headaches?
Tension headaches can be analyzed and diagnosed by your doctor. Your doctor can tell the nature of your headaches by an examining you and studying the description of pain given by you. And to diagnose this problem technique like Blood Tests, X-Ray or brain scans are usually not required.

What treatment to take in which situations?
When your tension headaches are occasionally then simple pain reliever which can be taken without prescription can be useful. But while choosing these pain relievers you should first of all check the label for possible side effects which may be caused due to interactions with other medicines you are taking. If you are still facing any problems regarding how to take the dosage you must consult your reliable doctor or pharmacist.

But if your tension headaches are not occasionally and occur everyday or at regular short intervals of time then these pain relievers will not give you the right treatment and so in this type of situation you should consult your doctor. These medicines referred by your doctor not only help in relieving the pain but sometimes also useful in preventing these headaches to take serious forms. It is always advisable to treat the tension headaches when they are mild before they take some serious forms.

Besides taking medicines you can also use several other techniques to get relieve from pain in tension headaches. These techniques include:
Take enough sleep or rest
Put an ice pack on your neck or head at the time of these headaches
Regular exercises of 30-60 minutes 6 times a week will be useful in relieving the pain
Take everyday walk after meal or move on a long vacation to relieve yourself from your busy life.

Types of Migraine

Migraine is one of the most complex forms of disease. The disease is very common, affecting women and men, adults and teens alike, migraine affects some even children. Although very unpleasant, headache is often regarded as normal.
Major causes of this disease are viruses, bio-chemical substances, hormones, bacteria. Sensitivity to pain and headaches may be genetic. Insufficient serotonin is also an important factor.

There are 4 types of headache. It is important to know what shape affects you, because the treatment should be stability depending on the form of pain.

-type migraine headache: (seems to) affects only one side of the head, is very severe, can lead to the affected person unable to perform any activity in May, is accompanied by other symptoms: pain in eye movements, sensation nausea and even vomiting, photosensitivity.

Bunch-type pain: is severe and occurs suddenly, although it is of shorter duration, the pain may leave and return several times during the day.

-triggered by sinus headache from different cause: irritation of sinus, sinus infections, etc. Given its nature, this pain is often confused with “classic” migraine.
-type migraine "rebound" occurs in a waiver of certain drugs, abuse of drugs can cause this type of headache.

Migraine triggers in home

When the crisis is triggered migraine or gives signs that going to be triggered, many personal suffering they go back home to face the pain in a familiar environment. This could be a mistake. According to studies, about 60% of migraine sufferers have the genetically inherited disease, and 40% had disease due to environmental conditions. It is therefore possible that trigger migraines to be patient even in the house. Examples of triggers in your home:
-allergens that exist in any home: molds, mushrooms masonry mobile mites, etc. In these cases it is useful to use air filter.
-Tobacco smoke from people who smoke. These personae should be asked to smoke outside.
Carbon-monoxide - a gas that is resulted after firing, a colorless and odorless. May be issued by the oven gas stove, fireplaces and other devices that work with gas, toxic emanations of the car (if the engine is started in the garage and living room is well sealed).
-Water distribution network - it is recommended to drink still mineral water or purified water. If possible, recommend consumption of boiled and cooled water.
-Chemicals used for driving away insects and rodents.
-Animal-hair - is a strong allergen, in case of migraine sufferer comes to realize that the crisis of migraine is caused by animal hair, he must give up the animal or make treatment with anti-allergy products.
-Cleaners: they exist in any home, but unfortunately most of them have in composition chlorine, which can cause migraines. It is better to use natural products or even some products without chlorine.

Migraines - Genetic research

Migraine headaches are a huge health problem. In a 2004 report, the World Health Organization (WHO) called migraines and headache disorders a global public health calamity. Migraines and other chronic headache conditions are disabling. In the same report, the WHO ranked migraine as one of the top twenty conditions in the world to cause years of healthy life lost due to disability. Migraines and all other headache disorders combined rank in the top ten causes of disability. As a result of the increasing global recognition of migraine as a health threat, genetic research into the condition has multiplied exponentially in the last ten to fifteen years.

Doctors have long known that a child with two migraineur parent will likely have migraines. A 2000 Danish study using primarily twins indicated that migraine without aura (common migraine) is approximately sixty-one percent genetic. The other thirty-nine percent was attributed to genetic factors, making migraines a partially genetic disease. Family history studies and the Danish study both suggest that migraines are a multi-genomic condition, meaning that several genes or combinations of genes are required for the condition to be inherited.

In a study published in June 2003, Dutch doctors revealed that a particular sub-type of migraine, familial hemiplegic migraine, follows a conventional Mendelian inheritance pattern (simple inheritance) in seventy-five percent of all cases. The same study indicated that common migraine is considerably more complex. Several potential genetic loci have been looked at.

The Genomics Research Centre at Griffith University, Queensland, Australia, reports progress in locating genetic loci for migraines. Researchers have been studying multi-generational migraine sufferers within the same family for years. According to their website, the researchers have identified three different genetic regions on the chromosomes 1, 19, and X that harbor genes which increase migraine susceptibility. This type of research may eventually lead to a genetic treatment for migraines.

Causes of migraine crisis

Although they did some research, it is not known yet sure which are the elements that cause migraines. Supposedly there are a series of elements that we add over time and that, once reached "critical mass" cause pain parity. The migraine’s triggers differ from one individual to another, but many sufferers said that certain foods or combinations of foods trigger migraine crisis.

Science disagrees with this theory. They did some studies on the role of certain foods to trigger migraine, but could not reach a conclusion pertinent.

Although trigger migraine crisis may be theoretical speaking, any food, sufferers have prepared lists of foods that cause pain. There are some foods that appear on the lists of many personae migraine sufferers. These foods are:

Cheese - is a trigger for many sufferers of migraine, especially the cheese house or consistency. With low fat cheeses do not produce or produce fewer crises.

Processed meat (meat preparations) - seems to cause migraines parity with nitrates found in their composition.

Condiments - dressings and condiments are an important contribution to a crisis of migraine with substances they contain.

Flavor improvers are substances which are added to foods to imitate, modify, add or enhance the flavor of existence naturally in foods. Aroma improvers are substances which in combination with other ingredients have synergistic properties. Improvers of flavoring substances are virtually devoid of taste or flavor, but food in relatively low doses administered, substantially improves the taste attributes of those products. Any of these substances may be migraine triggers of the crisis.

Seasonings that seem to give migraineurs the most trouble include monosodium glutamate (MSG), common in Asian foods, artificial sweeteners, food dyes, and vinegar.

Of course that migraineurs who suspect a food trigger must consider trying an elimination diet to pinpoint the trigger food(s).

What is migraine?

Migraine is a neurological syndrome characterized by altered bodily perceptions, severe headaches, and nausea. Physiologically, the migraine headache is a neurological condition more common to women than to men. The word migraine was borrowed from Old French migraigne (originally as "megrim", but respelled in 1777 on a contemporary French model). The French term derived from a vulgar pronunciation of the Late Latin word hemicrania, itself based on Greek hemikrania, from Greek roots for "half" and "skull".

The typical migraine headache is unilateral and pulsating, lasting from 4 to 72 hours; symptoms include nausea, vomiting, photophobia (increased sensitivity to light), and phonophobia (increased sensitivity to sound).Approximately one-third of people who suffer migraine headache perceive an aura—unusual visual, olfactory, or other sensory experiences that are a sign that the migraine will soon occur.

Initial treatment is with analgesics for the headache, an antiemetic for the nausea, and the avoidance of triggering conditions. The cause of migraine headache is unknown; the most common theory is a disorder of the serotonergic control system.

There are migraine headache variants, some originate in the brainstem (featuring intercellular transport dysfunction of calcium and potassium ions) and some are genetically disposed. Studies of twins indicate a 60 to 65 percent genetic influence upon their propensity to develop migraine headache. Moreover, fluctuating hormone levels indicate a migraine relation: 75 percent of adult patients are women, although migraine affects approximately equal numbers of prepubescent boys and girls; propensity to migraine headache is known to disappear during pregnancy, although in some women migraines may become more frequent during pregnancy.
