Is Depression Linked to Migraines?

Image
There is no evidence if migraines lead to depression or whether depression leads to headaches, but one certainty is that the two diseases are related. This is the result of a study conducted by Carmen Molgat, assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon and Scott Patten, professor of psychiatry at the Calgary University from Calgary, Alberta. The study conducted by the two was based on a sample of 130,000 people in Canada. Monitoring study conducted for several medical conditions, including migraines and depression crisis. Another conclusion of the study was that both migraine and depression crises involve brain activity in serotonin receptors and transporters, receptors for dopamine and adrenaline. This is very important for finding new treatments for both disorders (depression and migraine), as it found that the treatments for migraine have positive effects on depression and antidepressants positively affect migraine crises.
